How to Soundproof a Container

to make it suitable for use as a generator housing

1. Flexible Noise Barrier (FNB) Rw 32

The corrugated metal of a container is a very poor insulator or sound, as metal conducts sound. So the first thing to do is to line the inside of the container with a 3mm thick layer of FNB.  The addition of the heavy, limp, flexible, soundproofing is highly beneficial in mitigating sound from being transmitted through the structure. FNB has an Rw 32 acoustic rating.

Installation:

Fixed in place with flat bar top, middle and bottom.

The FNB is cut to length with a sharp blade

Overlap FNB joins by 5cm

Product info:

Roll width: 1m wide

Roll length: 10m

Sold by the roll or by the meter

2. LF125 - 100mm Thick

LF125 is ideal for damping generator noise and is non-flammable. The 100mm thickness is ideal for getting great sound absorption in the low frequency range. It may be tempting to try cut costs and get a thinner sound absorber but it would be completely counter productive, as the sound absorption at a 50mm thickness in the exact same material is less than 50% as effective.

Sound absorption coefficient:

125Hz    0.7 (70%)

250Hz    1.0 (100%)

500Hz    1.0 (100%)

1000Hz 1.0 (100%)

2000Hz 1.0 (100%)

5000Hz 1.0 (100%)

Product info:

Panel size: 1.2m x 0.6 x 100mm thick

Total m² ÷ 0.72 = Quantity of panels required

Installation:

Apply the LF125 panels with Genesis contact adhesive. It is available in liquid form so it can be brushed on or a 500ml aerosol tin for spray on.

The LF125 panels can be cut with a sharp craft knife (extendable blades)

Raw edges left after cutting must be finished with the extra lining provided.

3. Acoustic Louvre

To regulate the temperature with the container you require airflow but a simple vent will allow all the noise to escape. Our acoustic louvers are designed for commercial applications, to attenuate noise noise while still allowing the necessary airflow.

Installation:

Install one louvre for the air inlet and another for the hot air outlet.

All joins around the louvre should be properly sealed.

4. Steel soundproof door

A soundproof door is required for access. We manufacture soundproof steel doors, complete with door all hardware, frame and acoustic seals.

Type: Single and double leaf - hinged doors

Size: Custom made to order
