Plan on Using your Generator Enclosure Outside?
Your LF125 Fixed Soundproof Generator Enclosure must be protected from the elements.
One of the following scenarios will work for you:
● In a garage
● Store it in an outside room
● In a shed
● Under a lean to roof
a) The roof should be big enough to shade the enclosure from full sun, as on hot days the sun can heat up the enclosure, making it difficult to regulate the heat inside when the generator is in operation. If necessary, tension some shade cloth on the structure to ensure that it stays cool.
b) The enclosure must be raised off the ground by at least 10cm, to protect both the enclosure and the generator, from water run off in heavy rain. Make sure the area has adequate drainage.
c) The roof overhead will also provide you with shelter, should you need to refuel or do any maintenance in rainy weather.

Features & Benefits:

1. Soundproofing
The LF125 Enclosure boasts an impressive 30 dBA drop off at 1m, as measured with a calibrated sound level meter. That SPL drops by a further 20 dBA reduction at 7m.
Please be aware that a 10 - 20dBA reduction in noise levels is nowhere near sufficient to solve generator noise problems, as you'll still exceed municipal by laws by a large margin.
If your generator runs at 95dBA which is very common then it's imperative to get a minimum of a 30dBA drop off. This puts you at 65dBA but depending on the location and distance of your generator from your main house and your neighbour, you could go down to 45dBA which would make you compliant.

2. Sound Absorption
Sound is absorbed differently at different frequencies. Damping generator noise requires high sound absorption at low frequencies in order to be effective, as low frequencies travel further and are far more difficult to attenuate. We can all relate to the doof, doof, doof noise of the party next door or the taxi driving past a block away.
The LF125 sound absorbers used inside our soundproof enclosure absorb 70% of sound at 125Hz and 100% of sound between 250 - 5000Hz. NRC 1.05
Open cell polyurethane foams are typically poor sound absorbers at low frequencies which makes them unsuitable for this application.
3. Fire Safety
The LF125 sound absorbers used inside the enclosure are non-combustible.
We often get feedback from clients who have been sold an open cell polyurethane foam and I cannot emphasise enough how risky this is, as it is highly flammable and emits toxic fumes if it burns. Yes, I have spoken to people who have had first hand experience of the kind of disaster this can cause.
Remember the scouts Moto "Safety first". It's always far better to prevent the problem than have to solve an expensive and dangerous problem afterwards.

4. Airflow
Commercial grade extraction fans are provided with the enclosure, to move air across the generator and prevent it from overheating. The fans must be connected by your electrician so that when the generator starts, the fans also start automatically. With a fan at each side of the enclosure there is built in redundancy for added safety.

5. Acoustic Baffles
Airflow is directed through two acoustic baffles:
1. One to draw cool air in and
2. The other to exhaust the hot air out on the opposite side
Thus the temperature is controlled without any compromise to the sound attenuation.

6. Quick & Easy Access
The sides and the roof are hinged to provide quick & easy access wherever you need it for maintenance and refuelling. Opening any
side takes only seconds, saving you time and effort.

7. Exhaust Ventilation
The exhaust should not be vented into the soundproof enclosure, as over time the dirt in the fumes would coat the generator and the inside of the enclosure. Also it would not be safe to open an enclosure and breath in toxic exhaust fumes.
In order to overcome this problem and safely vent the exhaust outside, we provide the LF125 exhaust baffle. This consists of flexible galvanised steel pipe and baffle which will insulate both acoustically and thermally.
The pipe is sold by the meter & available in various diameters, so you can get exactly what you need. A bolt clamp comes with the pipe, in order to fasten it over the exhaust outlet. The baffle, which just slips over the pipe, is sold in lengths of 60cm / 120cm.
